Graf von Westphalen advises Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund
In 2001, Deutsche Post printed millions of stamps, featuring the American actress Audrey Hepburn, as part of a series of stamps of Hollywood stars. Lacking the necessary approval for the use of the image, Deutsche Post had to destroy all printed stamps.
For unknown reasons, at least five stamps went into public circulation. Further, Deutsche Post held back two ten-sheet-stamps in their archives. The stamp quickly developed into Philatelists’ favourite. The few available specimen of the stamp reached extraordinary high prices in public auctions. The stamp is now frequently referred to as the most expensive modern stamp of all.
At the time, also the heirs of Audrey Hepburn were provided with an example sheet of the stamps. Sean Ferrer, son of Audrey Hepburn and the chairman and founder of the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund (“AHCF”), decided to bring this ten-stamp-sheet to public auction for the benefit of UNICEF and the AHCF`s own charity program.
Graf von Westphalen advised Mr. Ferrer and the AHCF under the lead-manage of Florian Wolff in their discussions with Deutsche Post and the German Ministry of Finance in preparation of the auction of the stamps.
The auction was successfully held on October 16, 2010 in Berlin.
