Who's Who Legal 2012 recommends three partners of Graf von Westphalen in trade and customs law
Graf von Westphalen is the only German law firm with several listings in the Who's Who Legal Germany 2012 ranking of leading legal practitioners in the "trade & customs" area. The renowned law firm directory lists three partners from Graf von Westphalen's Hamburg office - Lothar Harings, Marian Niestedt and Klaus Landry - among the foremost experts in the "trade and customs law" area. A total of just seven recommendations were made in this practice field, which Who's Who Legal describes as particularly dynamic as the increasing importance of sanctions and export control regimes has raised demand for legal advice among internationally active companies. This recommendation represents another important distinction for Graf von Westphalen's foreign trade law team following the recent confirmation of the practice's leading position in the JUVE Handbook 2011/2012, the authoritative guide on commercial law firms in Germany.
Lothar Harings is recognized as a "vastly knowledgeable" expert in trade and customs law whose key areas of expertise include customs law, export controls and sanctions as well as anti-dumping law. He is a member of the board of governors of the European Forum for External Trade, Excise and Customs. The JUVE Handbook also ranks Lothar Harings among the leading German attorneys in customs and export control law.
Marian Niestedt is recommended as an "internationally renowned" expert with specialist expertise in the areas of customs law as well as export controls and sanctions. In addition, his 2010 listing in Who's Who Legal "Trade & Customs" has been confirmed in the 2011 ranking, where he is listed as one of only three German attorneys specialized in trade & customs law.
Klaus Landry is recognized as a customs and foreign trade law expert who is "highly respected" among peers and clients. In addition, the latest edition of the JUVE Handbook lists Landry as a "frequently recommended" expert in the areas of criminal tax law (with a focus on customs and foreign trade law) and litigation/arbitration.
"These distinctions confirm the excellent reputation of our customs and foreign trade law practice, one of Graf von Westphalen's traditional flagship areas", says Dr. Robert Theissen, Managing Partner of Graf von Westphalen. The Hamburg- and Brussels-based team advises internationally active companies, forwarding agents, insurance firms and logistics service providers in all aspects of customs and foreign trade law and represents companies and company directors before national authorities and the European Commission as well as before financial, civil, criminal and administrative courts right up to the European Court of Justice. The team's industry-specific expertise covers such sectors as pharmaceuticals/healthcare, food, electronics, new media, financial services, textiles/shoes and industrial equipment.
