The Association is open to anyone or any businesses or institutions interested in the development of legal and practical issues associated with cross-border trade. Currently EFA has approximately 280 members, mainly from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The following professional groups are represented: Administration, courts, advisory services, commercial enterprise, research and academic teaching.

Dr. Lothar Harings has specialized as a lawyer in European Community law, particularly customs law, export control, foreign trade law and anti-dumping as well as European state aid law since 1997. In the Juve Handbook of German Commercial Law Firms 2008/2009 he is recommended as a lawyer for foreign trade and is listed as a leading name in EU market regulation and customs law.
