The Hamburg office of the cross-regional law firm Graf von Westphalen has rented the office space on the 2nd to 5th floors of the Alte Post [Old Post Office] in Hamburg's city centre. Graf von Westphalen thus remains loyal to its traditional location in Hamburg's city centre.
The new office space is on the 2nd to 5th floors of the historic building. The new office has a total area of approximately 3.500 m². Graf von Westphalen will move into the new office space at the end of 2011 with more than 100 members of staff, of whom 44 are lawyers, accountants and tax advisers.
Dr. Robert Theissen, Managing Partner at Graf von Westphalen said: "We very consciously decided in favour of this wonderful property in the city centre, directly next to our current office: partly because of its location, but also because of the property's special charm with its unique blend of history and modernity. With its modern fittings and equipment, a generously-sized conference area and an optimal room layout we will have room for growth in the building."
The Alte Post located on the canal - between Neuer Wall and Große Bleichen - was built in 1845-1847 by the Hamburg architect Alexis de Chateauneuf in the Italian renaissance style with neo-Gothic elements. It was first used to bring together four post office stations in one building; the tower with its optical telegraphic signalling arm was used for conveying information.
In the years 1969 - 1970 the Alte Post was gutted, leaving only the façade and the tower, and was converted into an office building with a shopping mall on the ground floor. The Alte Post's listed façade and its tower are now being renovated by alstria Office REIT-AG and Quantum Immobilien AG. With sensitivity for the historical stylistic elements, prestigious offices and exclusive retail outlets will be created according to the plans of the Hamburg architect and surveyor of listed buildings, Alk Arwed Friedrichsen.
