GvW Graf von Westphalen strengthens its Shanghai office with Dr Oliver Maaz

The experienced China expert Dr Oliver Maaz (44), who specializes in the structuring of foreign companies’ China investments and provides comprehensive legal advice to foreign investors in the country, is leaving the audit and legal consultancy Rödl & Partner. Most recently, he was a salary partner there and will join the law firm Graf von Westphalen as a designated equity partner in Shanghai.

With this new addition, Graf von Westphalen continues to significantly expand its advisory practice in Shanghai, in particular in the field of its core clients, i.e. mid-sized and large SMEs as well as family businesses: The German qualified lawyer Maaz has been advising many of his clients in China for years and maintains a close relationship with companies from various sectors, among them many German trading and manufacturing entities mostly from the metal and consumer goods industry, which have already been investing in China for years and established an own business there. The equity partner election process is still ongoing at GvW Graf von Westphalen.

With Maaz joining the Shanghai office, GvW Graf von Westphalen’s headcount there now reaches ten. Together with the German and Chinese lawyers of its China desk in Germany, the firm has acquired a “convincing position in the German-Chinese business” (JUVE Handbuch 2014/2015) over the last few years.
