Düsseldorf: Graf von Westphalen hires leading procurement law expert for new office
Dr. Bettina Meyer-Hofmann, a lawyer recommended by the JUVE Handbook of commercial law firms as a Germany-wide adviser in public procurement law, will oversee the growth of the healthcare practice at Graf von Westphalen. Together with Nils-Alexander Wenig, the 43-year-old Meyer-Hoffmann will leave Mütze Korsch Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft no later than the end of the year and then take over as office coordinator at Graf von Westphalen in Düsseldorf.

Dr. Meyer-Hofmann serves as an adviser to university medical centers and municipal hospitals involved in complex procurement projects (implementation of master plans, competitive bidding for IT, development of strategic concepts). She also provides guidance with subsidy law. The JUVE Handbook notes that Dr. Meyer-Hofmann has gained an exceptional reputation as an adviser in the healthcare area, particularly thanks to her consulting work with hospitals in the area of discount contracts and the competitive bidding of private supplementary services. At Graf von Westphalen, Dr. Meyer-Hofmann sees exceptional opportunities to expand the healthcare practice throughout the law firm’s network of offices.

The firm intends to have 10 to 15 attorneys working in Düsseldorf, the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, over the middle term. These lawyers will offer a broad range of commercial law services in the Rhineland region of Germany. The firm has already hired lawyers for the areas of corporate/M&A and private construction/real estate law. Additional partners are expected to join the firm.

Federal Administrative Court: Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link may be built
The Federal Administrative Court has dismissed all six pending appeals against the planning decision on the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link. Construction of the tunnel may therefore now also begin in Germany. Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
