Federal Cabinet approves the draft Act on the Reorganization of the Disposal of Nuclear Technology

The four operators of nuclear power plants Eon, RWE, EnBW and Vattenfall are paying around 23.6 billion Euro into a fund. In exchange, the Federal Government assumes the responsibility for the intermediate and final storage of all radioactive waste. The Draft Act on the Reorganization of the Disposal of Nuclear Technology was introduced by the Federal Cabinet yesterday.

The draft also provides that the companies remain responsible for shutting down and demolishing the nuclear power plants.

The Federal Cabinet is following the recommendations of the Commission on Financing the Nuclear Energy Exit (Kommission zur Finanzierung des Kernenergieausstiegs, "KFK") which submitted this proposal for a compromise in April.

Two attorneys of GvW Graf von Westphalen, Dr Werner Schnappauf and Gerald Hennenhöfer, are members of the expert commission. Both of them explain in our short video the results of the KFK with regard to the turnaround in energy policy and the demolition of nuclear power plants.
