The Legal 500 recommends Graf von Westphalen in several practice areas
Graf von Westphalen has again received high ratings in the international directory “The Legal 500 Europe, Middle East & Africa.” In the 2011 edition, the law firm is recommended, in particular, in the practice areas of “Banking and finance: Bank lending”, “Corporate and M&A: Mid-sized deals", “Employment”, “Public sector”, “Real estate and construction".
“Our good position in the highly regarded law firm ranking of ‘The Legal 500’ confirms the successful client work, service focus and strategic direction of our practice areas,” says Christof Kleinmann, Managing Partner at Graf von Westphalen. For more than 20 years, the internationally renowned guide has been recommending legal services providers in more than 100 countries around the world. Its coverage is divided by area, with separate rankings published for the UK, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Asia Pacific and the U.S. The recommendations are based on a survey of more than 181,000 clients, supplemented by own research conducted by The Legal 500 team.
In its editorial commentary, “The Legal 500” highlights Graf von Westphalen’s special expertise in the area of public sector law: “Graf von Westphalen is regarded for its contentious advice, and frequently represents clients from the food retail industry, recently several food companies regarding the reimbursement of CMA fees.” The team advised the state of Hamburg on compliance issues relating to a bank shareholding.
“Ronald Steiling and Carsten Bittner are recommended” in a team which has been strengthened with Dr. Dietrich Drömann joining from Servatius Rechtsanwälte.
The editorial commentary on the special recommendation for real estate and construction law reads: “Graf von Westphalen’s construction team remained unaffected by the loss of its Freiburg and Cologne offices, and frequently receives praise for the ‘impressive’ Robert Theissen in Hamburg. Highlights included advising HarmInvest on the ongoing Port Olpenitz project, and Spanish group Barceló Hotels & Resorts on the erection of a hotel. Strabag instructed the team on a roadwork project in Nairobi."

Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
