WTO Law
World Trade Organisation Law
The agreements and conventions entered into under the umbrella of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), e.g. GATT, GATS, TRIPS or the WTO Subsidies Agreement overlap with EU law.
International trade is to take place in a non-discriminatory manner between the WTO Member States. In the event of violations, there is a special dispute settlement procedure available to Member States by which disputes can be finally settled. If consultations between the states fail to settle the dispute, one state may be authorised to introduce countervailing duties on imports from third countries.
Knowledge of the content and manner of operation of WTO law is absolutely necessary when it comes to providing comprehensive advice on international trade.
