Aviation data: GvW advises GroupEAD on the successful handover of the European AIS Database to EUROCONTROL
The operation of the European AIS Database (EAD), the central European database for aeronautical information, has been successfully transferred from GroupEAD Europe S.L. (GroupEAD) to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). GroupEAD is owned by DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, the Spanish air navigation service provider ENAIRE, and Frequentis AG, a global leader in technology for air traffic management and public safety & transport.
GroupEAD has operated the EAD on behalf of EUROCONTROL for more than two decades. The EAD is the world’s largest centralised platform for verified and up-to-date aeronautical data. It provides essential information for authorities, air navigation service providers, airlines, pilots and the public, and is an indispensable component for the safety and efficiency of European air traffic. Thanks to the standardised, rapid and reliable exchange of data, involving over 55 countries and numerous air navigation service providers, savings of more than €60 million could be achieved across the European aviation system in recent years alone.
GvW has provided GroupEAD with legal support for many years in all contractual matters relating to the EAD, as well as during the transition of operations to EUROCONTROL. The GvW team advising GroupEAD, led by Helmut Kempf (Commercial), included Dr Joachim Mulch (IP) and Dr Markus Kappenhagen (Employment Law).

Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
