Siemens Energy and Dragados Offshore can start planning the converter stations for the LanWin1 and LanWin3 offshore grid connection systems. Both companies have now been awarded the contract for the approximately four billion euro project by Amprion Offshore GmbH after a tendering and awarding phase lasting just three months.
LanWin1 and LanWin3 connect wind farms in the North Sea with the onshore transmission grid. The new converter stations will each be able to feed 2 gigawatts of electricity generated at sea into the grid. Together, this corresponds to the needs of around 4 million people. According to the German government's current plans, LanWin1 is scheduled to go into operation in 2029 and LanWin3 in 2030.
GvW supported Amprion Offshore GmbH in the tendering process. The team consisted of Dr Sebastian Rohrer (lead), Tobias Lang (both energy law / construction law), Dr Maximilian Emanuel Elspas, Guido Brucker (both energy law), Dr Robert Theissen, Dr Thomas Senff (construction law), Andrea Torka, Dr Patrick Wolff (finance), Jörg Khöber (IP), Lars Hillmann (customs law) and Dr Michael Engel (tax law).
The team had already successfully advised Amprion on the commissioning of the consortium of Siemens Energy and Dragados Offshore with the construction of the converters for the DolWin4 and BorWin4 offshore grid connections.

The project involves the planning, construction, installation and commissioning of a converter system comprising an offshore converter platform in the North Sea and an onshore converter station in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The North Sea Connector 2 project is intended to connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the German electricity grid in future.
