GvW Graf von Westphalen has advised Ethereal Space, Inc., a pioneering commercial space company, on space and satellite law matters and the establishment of its affiliate Ethereal Space GmbH.
Ethereal Space is the first commercial operator to deploy and operate a dedicated Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation for space weather observations. Its space‑based infrastructure provides high‑resolution, near‑real‑time data on solar activity and space weather phenomena, enabling operators in the energy, aviation, telecommunications and space sectors to anticipate and mitigate risks arising from solar storms and geomagnetic disturbances in an increasingly space‑dependent environment.
The project was led by Dr. Grace Nacimiento, Partner at GvW Graf von Westphalen, who advised on all aspects of space and satellite law, including the regulatory framework applicable to satellite operations and licensing. The incorporation of Ethereal Space GmbH and all related corporate and shareholder matters were handled by Dr. Malte J. Hiort and Martin Dopychai, providing comprehensive advice under German corporate law.
GvW Graf von Westphalen advised the transmission system operator 50Hertz on the award of a major contract for the North Sea Connector 2 offshore grid connection project. The project involves the planning, construction, installation and commissioning of a converter system comprising an offshore converter platform in the North Sea and an onshore converter station in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The North Sea Connector 2 project is intended to connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the German electricity grid in future.
