The first interdisciplinary BIM cluster has been established in the metropolitan region of Hamburg in the form of BIM HUB Hamburg. Representatives from the architect profession, building technology, engineering, project management, law, associations and software companies have come together to provide knowledge about Building Information Modeling (BIM) and expand the common capacities. GvW-Partner Christian Esch, expert in the law governing construction and architects at the Hamburg office of the firm was elected as the member of the board for legal issues.
BIM, according to the definition of the BAK/pb4.0, refers to the cooperative methodology, based on digital models for a structure, the information and data which are relevant for the life cycle of the structure can be consistently collected, managed and exchanged in transparent communications between the involved parties or provided for further processing. This innovative methodology will fundamentally change the planning, construction and operation of buildings in the future.
In addition to GvW, the companies Core Architekten, Mensch und Maschine, WTM Engineers, O. Sommerfeld, August Prien, Pinck Ingenieure, Züblin and HPC were involved in establishing the organization. Based on the steps in the plan "Digital Planning and Construction" from the Federal Ministry for Traffic and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) and the wide range of work by planen-bauen 4.0, various BIM clusters have already been initiated throughout the country.

Christian Esch will also hold a presentation about the topic of BIM at the Technical University of Harburg on 21 June as part of a series of lectures developed by BIM HUB.
GvW Graf von Westphalen advised the transmission system operator 50Hertz on the award of a major contract for the North Sea Connector 2 offshore grid connection project. The project involves the planning, construction, installation and commissioning of a converter system comprising an offshore converter platform in the North Sea and an onshore converter station in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The North Sea Connector 2 project is intended to connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the German electricity grid in future.
