GvW Graf von Westphalen advised Vsquared Ventures as lead investor in the pre-seed financing round of the German defence tech company Ground A. Together with additional investors, Vsquared is providing the start-up with a total investment of EUR 9.1 million.
Founded in January 2026, Ground A develops software- and laser-based systems for drone defence and air defence applications. Its first product, the GA 1000, combines radar and sensor technology with computer vision, artificial intelligence and laser technology. With the new funding, Ground A intends to further test and industrialise the system and establish a modular serial production facility in Germany.
Ground A’s financing highlights the growing importance of the defence tech sector in Germany and the increasing need for integrated legal advice at the intersection of technology, regulation and transactions. GvW brings together this expertise through its interdisciplinary Defence & Security focus group.
The GvW team advising on this transaction was led by Titus Walek and included Alexander Metz (both Venture Capital), Dr Joachim Mulch (IP), Jan-Erik von Kopp (Employment), Dr Gerd Schwendinger and Roman Jusen (both Foreign Investment Control) and Irmela Dölle (IT and Data Protection).
