GvW Graf von Westphalen advises Clariant in the sale of the former headquarters of Süd-Chemie
Clariant Produkte (Deutschland) GmbH has sold the real property of the former headquarters of Süd-Chemie AG in Munich to Rock Capital. The Parties agreed on confidentiality with regard to the transaction volume.
The elegant premises in the Lenbachplatz 6 are under protection as an historic landmark and have a very attractive location in the center of Munich in direct proximity to the Stachus and the Munich main train station. The property was the headquarters for decades of the traditional company Süd-Chemie AG, which was acquired by the Swiss special chemicals group Clariant at the beginning of 2011. The building constructed around 1890 was most recently the headquarters for the Clariant business units Catalysts and Functional Minerals as well as some service units. As part of the transaction, Clariant also sold its administration location in the Ottostraße in the so-called art block (Kunstblock) with the official reception area for both buildings to Rock Capital.
Clariant, headquartered in the Swiss town of Muttenz, has more than 100 group companies on five continents and is one of the leading suppliers of special chemicals. The listed company has 15 locations just in Germany, including the worldwide largest production site of the company in the industrial park in Höchst in Frankfurt am Main. Clariant delivers its products to the processing industry and especially to customers in the automobile, construction, electronics, cosmetics, plastics, agricultural protection as well as the pharmaceutical industries.
GvW advised Clariant, which has been a client for many years, in this real estate transaction through the Munich partners Hans-Joachim Lagier (real estate law) as well as the Frankfurt attorneys Thomas Schroiff (real estate partner), Dr. Frank Tschesche (tax law partner) and Lars-Olaf Leskovar (tax law).

Federal Administrative Court: Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link may be built
The Federal Administrative Court has dismissed all six pending appeals against the planning decision on the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link. Construction of the tunnel may therefore now also begin in Germany. Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
