Telekom is expanding its largest data center in Germany with the assistance of GvW Graf von Westphalen
Deutsche Telekom AG (Telekom) is expanding its data center in Biere/Saxony-Anhalt. The Telecom group headquartered in Bonn began by laying the cornerstone for this large project this week. GvW Graf von Westphalen has advised Telekom in the contract negotiations and structuring of the real estate leasing contract with an obligation to build.
The cloud capacity at the location in Biere is supposed to be expanded by 150 percent with three further data center modules. The investment volume for the new construction, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter 2018, is in a lower three digit millions range.
Just two years ago, Telekom developed the site in Biere with the support of GvW and constructed the facility after obtaining the right to build. The data center in Biere, which is operated by the Telekom subsidiary T-Systems, together with the site in Magdeburg is the largest and most modern data center for cloud services in Germany. As a so-called "TwinCore" data center, one site can take over in the case of problems in operations at the other site without any delay in time.
The law firm provided advice to Telekom under the lead of Dr Lorenz Czajka (lead partner) together with Dr Sven Donner (both real estate law, Berlin).
