DFS Aviation Services GmbH (DAS), a subsidiary of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS), has entered into a strategic partnership with Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS).
The cooperation envisages DAS providing DANS with air traffic control personnel in Dubai for a period of five years starting in January 2025. To this end, a local office will be set up to provide air traffic management, standards, training, safety, engineering and technical support for air traffic control systems.
The DFS Group, based in Langen, is responsible for the organisation and safety of civil and military air traffic in Germany, monitoring millions of aircraft movements in German airspace every year. In addition, the company, with its 5,700 employees at 19 locations, is actively involved in international projects to further develop global air traffic control.
DANS is responsible for providing air traffic control services in Dubai and the northern Emirates of the UAE. The company controls air traffic at Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) airports, which are among the busiest in the world.
GvW Graf von Westphalen provided comprehensive legal advice to the DFS Group on the design and implementation of this strategic cooperation. An interdisciplinary team led by Düsseldorf partner Helmut Kempf, and consisting of Dr Katja Göcke (Hamburg) and Dr Joachim Mulch (Düsseldorf), provided particular support in the area of contract drafting. Helmut Kempf had already advised the DFS Group on earlier expansion steps into other countries.
GvW Graf von Westphalen advised the transmission system operator 50Hertz on the award of a major contract for the North Sea Connector 2 offshore grid connection project. The project involves the planning, construction, installation and commissioning of a converter system comprising an offshore converter platform in the North Sea and an onshore converter station in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The North Sea Connector 2 project is intended to connect offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the German electricity grid in future.
GvW Graf von Westphalen has advised Primepulse and Vsquared Ventures on the Series C financing round of NEURA Robotics GmbH. The transaction ranks among the largest venture financing rounds in the European startup ecosystem to date.
