Cooperations

Education, social issues or culture - as a law firm, GvW is involved in various organisations and projects. We present selected cooperations here.

Education

Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) is an international NGO that encourages future leaders to recognise and confront their ethical responsibilities as professionals. The focus is on jointly analysing the decisions and actions of Nazi-era professionals. The activities we perform jointly with FASPE include “ethics workshops” in which we discuss ethical issues on the subject of law/legal market in the context of historical events.

Law&Legal is a law clinic organised by students with offices in Bayreuth, Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Munich and Tübingen. We support this national initiative and are ready to assist the students with our legal expertise.

The 500-euro Magdalene-Schoch-Prize is awarded by the Equal Opportunity Unit of the Faculty of Law of Universität Hamburg jointly with us. It distinguishes a total of the five best papers by female students from the two past summer and winter semesters.

The Prize forming part of the Magdalene-Schoch mentoring programme is awarded in honour of Maria Magdalene Schoch (1897-1987), who was not only the first female legal scholar at Universität Hamburg to earn a Habilitation, the postdoctoral qualification that confers the right to lecture (venia legendi) in a particular subject at a German university, but was also the first woman to do so in all of Germany.

The Equal Opportunities Council of the Faculty of Law of Goethe University Frankfurt a.M. awards the Lucy Liefmann Prize in cooperation with GvW. We created this Prize to help raise greater awareness of equality and gender issues amongst students and with the general public.
A native from Frankfurt and daughter of an English father, Lucy Liefmann was the first woman to complete her legal studies at the University of Frankfurt Faculty of Law with a doctorate degree.

We have been supporting  ELSA-Deutschland e.V. for many years. ELSA’s aim is to promote collaboration amongst young Europeans in the field of law.
In addition to providing financial support, we invite the ELSA Groups to our case studies regionally and host a video competition as part of the EDMC Moot Court nationally.

Jessup Moot Court in International Law, Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court, ELSA Deutschland Moot Court (EDMC): as a law firm we support the most important international and national moot courts. In addition to providing financial support, we invite the university teams to practise their pleadings at our offices where they are coached by our lawyers to successfully argue fictitious cases in mock trials. Some lawyers –  such as Hamburg native Dr Hartmut Henninger in the Jessup Moot Court – also regularly participate as judges in the elimination rounds.

Charity work

The children’s hospice association DKHV e.V. helps children and youth with a terminal disease. In doing so, it is committed to raising awareness for the taboo around dying children and childhood death and to improving the understanding of the challenges faced by the children and families affected.
GvW partner Dr Grace Nacimiento is one of some 1,000 volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to helping these families. Our firm also supports the association in its publicity work, among other things through joint PR campaigns.

Culture

With Art on Top, GvW supports young artists in collaboration with the Städelschule fine art school in Frankfurt. In addition to the 2,000-euro sponsorship award, they are given the opportunity to present their works in a solo exhibition. At regular intervals, we host our vernissages and exhibit art for our clients on our 15th floor in Frankfurt.

GvW firm is supporting the construction of the Museum of German Romanticism in Frankfurt. For this purpose our Frankfurt office has carried out various campaigns, including hosting a client summer festival to help raise funds for this project.

We have been working together with the Friends of Chamber Music in Hamburg for many years. With our financial commitment we support this association in its efforts to give young artists a platform in classical music.
