GvW Graf von Westphalen expands its Düsseldorf office: Dr Hans Felix Schäfer joins the project development team
Rechtsanwalt Dr Hans Felix Schäfer joins GvW Graf von Westphalen's Düsseldorf office from 01.05.2013 as associate partner. Dr Schäfer was admitted to the German bar in 2002 and has since worked for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, DLA Piper, HFK Rechtsanwälte LLP and as Legal Counsel Northern Europe at ProLogis.
Dr Schäfer advises on the entire spectrum of real property law. The main focus of his activity is in the field of complex real property transactions and property developments, particularly in the logistics, retail, hotel and special property sectors. He also specialises in asset management including commercial lease law as well as in green building and green leases. Furthermore, he advises on the structuring and the operative business of consortia and joint venture companies in the field of construction corporate law.
His clients include reputable national and international property investors, project developers and companies including Verdion, ProLogis Inc., Ecolab Deutschland GmbH, Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA and Targetfollow Group Ltd. For example, in the past Dr Schäfer has advised E.ON on the sale of Viterra, Blackstone on the acquisition of a real estate portfolio from Deutsche Bank, Degussa on the sale of the Maintor-Aareal Frankfurt city centre, Motorola on the sale and sale and lease-back of its sites in Germany and the Starion group on its acquisition of what was then the second-largest shopping centre, the A10 centre near Berlin.
After Dr Kurt Luka (Hamburg), Dr Schäfer is the second associate partner whom the firm has been able to attract in order to further expand its project development practice. The Düsseldorf office is also continuing its course of expansion: With the addition of Dr Schäfer and the customs specialist Axel Krause, who joined GvW on 1 April, Düsseldorf now has a total of seven lawyers.

Federal Administrative Court: Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link may be built
The Federal Administrative Court has dismissed all six pending appeals against the planning decision on the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link. Construction of the tunnel may therefore now also begin in Germany. GvW advised the State of Schleswig-Holstein and was represented by a Hamburg team consisting of Dr Ronald Steiling (lead), Corinna Lindau, Dr Dietrich Drömann, Prof. Dr Christian Winterhoff, Dr Andreas Wolowski, Saskia Soravia, Dr Stefanie Ramsauer, Dr Annika Bleier, Felix Kazimierski and Niclas Langhans. Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
