JUVE: GvW named ‘Law Firm of the Year for International Trade Law’

GvW Graf von Westphalen received numerous recommendations across the full spectrum of business law in the new JUVE Handbook of Commercial Law Firms 2026/2027 and the JUVE Handbook of Tax Law, which was published at the same time. A particular highlight is the firm’s recognition as ‘Law Firm of the Year for International Trade Law’. In employment law, GvW was also among the four firms nominated for the ‘Law Firm of the Year’ award. Earlier this year, GvW had already been named ‘Law Firm of the Year for Public Procurement Law’ (more).

With the ‘Law Firm of the Year for International Trade Law’ award, JUVE recognises in particular the successful expansion of the team around Dr Tanja Galander, Bettina Mertgen and Dr Gerd Schwendinger through targeted recruitment, the development of in-house talent and the strategic advancement of the practice group. JUVE highlights the addition of the Frankfurt team around Bettina Mertgen, as well as the integration of traditional international trade law advice with advice on supply chain compliance and defence matters. “We are delighted to receive this award for the entire team – particularly because JUVE recognises our commitment to developing young talent and our next generation of lawyers is described as competent, quick and results-oriented,” says practice group head Dr Schwendinger.

The nomination in employment law also underlines the firm’s high standard of advice. According to JUVE, clients and competitors particularly praise “the team’s good cooperation and excellent advice”.

Furthermore, the firm has received star ratings for all its practice groups. Clients rate the “high level of reliability” and the “great commitment” of GvW’s lawyers, as well as their specialist knowledge and negotiating skills, particularly highly.

“Being named ‘Law Firm of the Year’ for international trade law and receiving a nomination in employment law underline the dynamism with which GvW continues to develop. We are particularly pleased that JUVE also recognises the successful integration of our new colleagues,” explain Dr Maximilian Emanuel Elspas and Christian Mayer-Gießen, Managing Partners at GvW. “At the same time, the numerous JUVE recommendations confirm the strength of our full-service approach: we combine in-depth expertise in individual areas of law with comprehensive business law advice from a single source.”
