Climate protection law

Under the EU Commission’s European Green Deal, Europe is to become carbon-neutral by 2050. Germany wants to reach that milestone already in 2045. As one of the steps towards achieving this goal, it has adopted the German Federal Climate Protection Act [Bundes-Klimaschutzgesetz – KSG]. If the impacts of global climate change are to be minimised, cutting greenhouse gas emissions will be an absolute must.

The economy is facing big challenges. Companies have to make their production and supply processes more climate-friendly. Particularly with energy-intensive industries, this will require nothing less than a transformation involving completely new concepts. At the same time this holds opportunities for companies looking to gain a competitive advantage through new technologies.

With its origins in international law and its numerous European and national provisions, climate protection law is providing an investment framework. Above all, climate protection law is at the interface of energy and environmental law and will therefore necessitate a close collaboration between experts from both disciplines. The lawyers from our firm pool their Energy Law and Environmental Law expertise in our Public Law practice group. We cover the full range of international climate policy issues, advising and assisting our investors, companies and the state with regard to all legal questions on their path towards carbon neutrality.
