GvW Graf von Westphalen expands its China practice: Dr Alexandra Hansmeyer joins the Shanghai office
GvW is again increasing its team of lawyers in Shanghai. With Dr Alexandra Hansmeyer the firm has gained a specialist for international transactions.
Dr Hansmeyer worked in the Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer corporate practice in Berlin and London for more than eight years and advised international clients as a German Rechtsanwältin and Solicitor (England & Wales). The main focus of her legal practice laid was on advising clients in the fields of M&A, joint ventures, cross-border restructuring and asset finance. Dr Hansmeyer was also able to gain in-depth practical experience in these areas during her nearly one-year secondment with an international investment bank in London.
At GvW, Dr Hansmeyer will advise German clients on their investments in China and strengthen the team which advises Chinese clients on acquisitions and investments in Germany and Europe.
GvW partner and on scale Patrick Heid welcomes the new addition to team: "Dr Hansmeyer has extensive experience advising large cross-border corporate projects. Both our German and our Chinese clients will profit greatly from her many years of experience with international transactions."
GvW established its own office in Shanghai in 2008 and from this office primarily advises corporations on their activities and business relationships with China. The team has recently grown rapidly after a further two appointments last year. The office currently boasts eight lawyers from Germany, China and the USA. The staff growth is in line with the economic development of the Shanghai office which reported a turnover increase of 20% last year. At the same time the firm`s China desk provides comprehensive advice to Chinese investors on German and European market entries – with a team of fifteen lawyers, eight of whom are native speakers of Mandarin.

Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
