GvW Graf von Westphalen strengthens its project development team.
Rechtsanwalt Dr Kurt Luka, LL.M. joined GvW Graf von Westphalen. The 38 year old has moved from Bird & Bird and will strengthen the Hamburg office's real estate and construction law practice as associate partner.
Dr Luka specialises in real estate project development. His clients especially include real estate and project companies as well as property developers, of which two are long-established project developers from Hamburg. In addition to providing legal and economic advice on real estate projects, Dr Luka also specialises in the field of real estate transactions.
The Hamburg-born lawyer has advised numerous companies on the sale of commercial and residential properties including the acquisition of a Berlin property portfolio with over 1000 apartments, on the project development of a DAX 30 company at Berlin's new major airport BER and on the development of power station projects in the field of renewable energy.
After getting to know the firm a few years ago during his legal traineeship, Dr Luka is pleased to be back at GvW with many Hamburg colleagues: "I am impressed by the low rate of fluctuation at the firm and the firm's consistently focussed growth. Given its cross-office real estate and construction law practice, GvW offers me an excellent platform for advising my numerous clients on all project phases. With my know-how I will, in particular, strengthen GvW's project development team further."
GvW's real estate and construction law practice now consists of 25 lawyers at its offices in Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. An important part of this practice is the cross-office team for project development and plant construction which is composed of experts from the fields of commercial lease law, private construction and architect's law, real estate transactions, real estate financing and environmental and construction law. GvW was one of very few firms recommended by the JUVE Handbook German Commercial Law Firms 2012/2013 in the "project development and plant construction" category.

Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
