GvW is enlarging its Shanghai team

Sebastian Wiendieck, a further German lawyer, joined the firm's Shanghai office on 1st September.  Wiendieck has over ten years of professional experience at various large international commercial law firms in Germany and China.
GvW partner and officer coordinator for Shanghai, Patrick Heid, is happy about the addition to team: "Sebastian Wiendieck has extensive experience advising large cross-border Corporate clients and in international arbitration. With his many years of experience in the Chinese business he is also well acquainted with the local peculiarities of the Chinese market. Both our German and our Chinese clients will profit greatly from this."
Wiendieck is moving from Schmitz & Partner Rechtsanwälte in Frankfurt am Main.  The 39 year old previously worked for Rödl & Partner in Guangzhou and Peking after spending a total of five years at the start of his career working for the international law firms Latham & Watkins and Clifford Chance in Frankfurt in their Dispute Resolution departments.
Wiendiecks' clients include, in particular, German companies who he is advising on their engagement in the Chinese market.  His additional key areas primarily include corporate law and out-of-court dispute resolution following takeovers (Post-M&A Litigation).
Sebastian Wiendieck: "I am very pleased about returning to China and am looking forward to directly advising German and European companies in the future in this challenging jurisdiction.  The corporate approach and quality of its work gave me the impetus to decide on GvW".
Graf von Westphalen has had its own office in Shanghai since 2008 and from this office primarily advises foreign companies on their activities and business relationships with China. The team has grown rapidly after a further two appointments this year. By the end of the year the office will boast eight lawyers from Germany, China and the USA. At the same time the China Desk of the firm provides comprehensive advice to Chinese investors on entering into the German and European markets – with a team of fifteen lawyers, eight of whom are native speakers of Mandarin.
