The Legal 500 Germany 2019: GvW Graf von Westphalen "considered by clients to be the ideal law firm for mid-size industry"
The law firm GvW Graf von Westphalen is again among the top law firms for the year. The Legal 500 Germany 2019 announced in its current issue: The firm is "considered by clients to be the ideal law firm for mid-size industry.
19 attorneys at the firm received a recommendation in the areas of foreign trade, construction law, state aid, data protection, commercial law and distribution systems, real estate law, information technology, tax law, environmental and planning law as well as public contracting. The competence of GvW in the sectors commercial, digitalization, real estate and construction as well as infrastructure and the public sector were especially praised.
In the area of commercial law, the firm is said to provide excellent performance "with a well-practiced team" and a "wide range of advice" in commercial law and distribution systems. GvW is also ranked as one of only three law firms as a top tier firm for foreign trade law.
The partnership is a top address for issues involving digitalization due to its "very good knowledge about the IT industry and topics related to data protection" and an "excellent understanding for the economic situations. Legal 500 writes in this regard that the law firm "distinguishes itself from other law firms by competency and its own understanding of its position in this field".
The GvW construction law practice had an excellent top ten placing in the rankings. The "excellent and very well informed real estate practice" placed in the third tier is among the leading real estate law firms in Germany.
State aid law, environmental and planning law as well as public contracting were areas in which the firm is recommended in the handbook with many attorneys in the various disciplines in public law. The expertise of GvW in advising on infrastructure projects was especially praised.

Federal Administrative Court: Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link may be built
The Federal Administrative Court has dismissed all six pending appeals against the planning decision on the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link. Construction of the tunnel may therefore now also begin in Germany. GvW advised the State of Schleswig-Holstein and was represented by a Hamburg team consisting of Dr Ronald Steiling (lead), Corinna Lindau, Dr Dietrich Drömann, Prof. Dr Christian Winterhoff, Dr Andreas Wolowski, Saskia Soravia, Dr Stefanie Ramsauer, Dr Annika Bleier, Felix Kazimierski and Niclas Langhans. Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
