GvW Graf von Westphalen advises PreussenElektra in dismantling nuclear power plants

PreussenElektra can now also start dismantling the nuclear power plant Grafenrheinfeld. After the nuclear power plants in Isar 1, Unterweser, the atomic regulatory permit for the nuclear power plant Grafenrheinfeld (KKG) has now been granted for shutting down and dismantling the power plant pursuant to § 7 para. 3 German Nuclear Power Act [Atomgesetz, "AtomG"]. GvW Graf von Westphalen is advising the company in the bidding negotiations for the dismantling of its nuclear power plants.

The KKG was finally taken off line on 27 June 2015 after 33 years in operation.  With more than 333 billion kilowatt hours of produced electric power, the plant was one of the largest producers of electric power. PreussenElektra currently is still producing electric power in Germany at the nuclear power plants Brokdorf (Schleswig-Holstein), Grohnde (Lower Saxony) and Isar 2 (Bavaria). The plants Isar 1 (Bavaria), Unterweser (Lower Saxony) and Stade (Lower Saxony) are being dismantled, whereby in the latter case the work has already progressed very far. The nuclear power plant Würgassen (North Rhine-Westphalia) has already been completely dismantled. PreussenElektra is now using this competence in demolishing power plant reactors for the KKG project.

The Hamburger GvW partner Dr. Robert Theissen (private construction law) has advised the company headquartered in Hanover in contract negotiations with the bidders on awarding major parts of the dismantling work. At the present time, he is supporting PreussenElektra in preparing the contract negotiations for further parts of the work in the dismantling process.

The law firm offers energy companies and governmental bodies comprehensive advice on current issues – from the dismantling of nuclear power plants to renovating and digitalizing the energy industry. For example, GvW partner Dr. Helmut Kempf was most recently requested to advise the Japanese Hitachi Group in developing highly innovative digital energy solutions for city power companies (more).
