Numerous awards for GvW Graf von Westphalen in customs and foreign trade law
GvW Graf von Westphalen's customs and foreign trade practice continues to enjoy an excellent reputation in the market. The JUVE Handbook German Commercial Law Firms 2012/2013 once again named GvW as one of the top three firms in customs and foreign trade law. In Who's Who Legal Germany 2013 the firm was, as last year, the only firm with several leading lawyers in the field "Trade & Customs".
Dr Lothar Harings is named in the JUVE Handbook as one of the leading lawyers in EU market regulation law and customs law as well as in export control law. Furthermore, the competitors praise Dr Harings as somebody who really knows his field.
Marian Niestedt has been described as an "excellent"/"leading lawyer" (Who's Who) and as a "highly experienced specialist“ (JUVE Handbook) in customs and foreign trade law.
Dr Klaus Landry is listed as a "leading lawyer" in the field of "Trade & Customs" (Who's Who) and in tax disputes and in tax criminal law (main focus customs/foreign trade and arbitration) is one of the "most recommended" lawyers (JUVE Handbook).
GvW's foreign trade team consists of eight lawyers at its offices in Hamburg and Brussels. The Hamburg lawyer Dr Gerd Schwendinger, LL.M., has been appointed associate partner with effect from 1 January 2013. In Brussels the "experienced customers specialist" (JUVE Handbook) Michael Lux has found assistance in the form of the associate Philipp-Christian Scheel.
The firm advises national and international clients on all legal matters relating to foreign trade law, particularly in the field of customs (including anti-dumping), market regulation, excise taxes, export control and WTO law. Also in neighbouring areas such as drawing up civil law contracts for import and export transactions, defending criminal and administrative fine proceedings and in EU economic administration law, the partners have many years of experience providing advice, dealing with authorities and in representing clients before national and European courts.

Transport System Bögl: new local public passenger transport system a big success in China
The Max Bögl group of companies has developed a new local public passenger transport system. The system called “Transport System Bögl” (TSB) uses magnetic levitation, or “maglev” technology and provides a clean and cost-efficient means of transport for better mobility in inner city areas. The technology is becoming increasingly popular also in other countries: Max Bögl’s most recent export order was the sale of its TSB to China. The company’s plans include building a 3.5 km test track in Chengdu and extensive marketing activities to promote the technology in China – all through a sales partnership with a Chinese company.
